Dress up

It's Red Ribbon Week at Kylie's school.  Each day has a theme that is supposed to help you to be anti-drug.  This is Kylie's on 80s day -- "Go old school and be drug free."  (Lame)... but she sure looked cute!

The whole Red Ribbon Week is waaaay over her head.  She has no idea what drugs are. And she's just as uncertain about the 80s.  When she mentioned costume ideas, it was clear that she was confusing the 80s with the 1800s.

Summer had a fun day yesterday too.  It was her Fall Party at school and everyone  in her class got to dress up.  She insisted that everyone call her "Kitty" and if they didn't, she hissed at them.

Only one more sleep until Halloween!  Pictures to come soon!

Carving Pumpkins

This year we took a different approach to pumpkin carving.  The same basic legwork was required in the beginning, which the girls didn't seem to mind.

But then we brought out the drill.  It definitely simplified things!  Here was the end result.

"Adventure is out there!"

For our church's Trunk-or-Treat, we decided to go as characters from the movie "UP."

Meet the cast:

Ellie and Mr. Fredricksen

Here's the whole gang.  Apparently we parked on the sunny side of the parking lot but you get the idea.  If you haven't seen this movie, you should.  I still can't get through the beginning without tearing up!

In the movie, Mr. Fredricksen and Russell spend a lot of quality time together.  Tonight, the same was true.  These two were inseparable all evening long.

And in the movie, these two wished that they could spend more quality time together but it didn't quite work out that way.  Life is funny like that.  Which is why I try to enjoy every moment I have with this guy.

He makes it easy :)

10 pounds lighter

For Jackson's first birthday, he received his very first haircut.  Six whole weeks have passed since then and you would never be able to guess that he had a haircut in the first place.  His little Superman curl could stretch all the way to his upper lip!

So I strapped Jackson into his highchair, loaded up his tray with one of his favorite snacks {granola bar} and snipped away.  Voila!

I took off what seemed like an outrageous amount of hair in hopes of stretching the time in between haircuts.  Doesn't that look like a toupee sitting on my counter???

But as you can see, he's got plenty of hair left.  And yes, I run my fingers through it every single day as long as he'll let me :)

Fall Break, part 2

On Monday the girls got to have a special lunch date with Josh.  They were overjoyed that they got to go to Wendy's and get frosties.  What a great way to celebrate a day off of school!

A month with my man

This month has been so great.  I've gotten to spend quite a bit of time with my man and I could not be happier.

One evening we met up with some church friends at a local pizza place.  I get to serve with these wonderful women in the children's organization every Sunday.  It was great getting together with them and their spouses.  We always have such a blast!

The very next day we woke up super early to visit the Louisville, KY temple.  Some friends of ours went down with us and while they went in the temple, we watched all the kids in the church building across the parking lot.  Then we switched.  It was perfect!  It was a super early morning {and a long day} but we wouldn't trade that time together for anything.

That evening we arranged to have a babysitter watch the kids so Josh and I could enjoy a quiet, uninterrupted dinner out.  I guess we just weren't sick of each other yet!

The cherry on top was this:
That is the MVP award that Josh received from his company for a job well done on a big project.  It came with 2 tickets to a Colts game :)

That game was today and it. was. awesome.
I'm not sure if we can ever go back because the experience can probably never be matched!

The band from the University of Louisville played and they were really good too!

I'm so glad I get to share my life with this guy.  He's fun {and funny!}, a hard worker, a religious man...

...and a family man.

And I love him so.

Fall Break

Since the girls didn't have school today, we took a day trip to China.

As I've gotten older, I've become more and more fascinated with other cultures.  It absolutely thrills me that my young children want to learn all they can about other countries and ways of life.

After our trip to China we just had to ride the carousel or Summer wouldn't last another minute.  Kylie was kind enough to keep Jackson company.  He loved rocking out to the music!

Finally, it was Jackson's turn to explore. I wish I could personally thank the creator of the Babyscape.  The design couldn't be more perfect.  While I wandered around with Jackson, the girls did some wandering of their own: to the music studio, the sand table, the waterfall.  We could have stayed in that one section for hours.

The girls will have the day off of school on Monday as well.  Little do they know that they already have plans...

September was such a busy month for us!  Our most time consuming project was a move {again}.  The good news is that it was to a larger townhome on the exact same street.  Moving down the street looks something like this:

Home sweet home!

Wait, something's missing....  That's more like it.

As we unpacked, we realized that Jackson is a climber.

I can't imagine where he learned that....

The family has gotten pretty good at getting around the ever-present baby gate.  Hopefully Jackson won't catch on too quickly!

In our spare time, life has been happening!  The girls are loving school.  Kylie has developed a strong interest in art and will draw, color, cut, and glue whenever she can.

Summer is also having the time of her life in dance class.  While the girls dance in the studio, the parents sit in the lobby to watch the class on the TV screen.  It's the next best thing to being a fly on the wall.

When Jackson isn't getting into everything, he's clinging to somebody's pant legs... literally!

I'm still trying diligently to make the most of our grocery budget so we checked out a local farmer's market the other day.  It's fun to watch the girls express greater interest in healthy eating habits.

And that's a wrap!  Can you believe it's October already?!
