As parents, we have to wear a lot of hats.  We're caregivers, chauffeurs, cooks, referees, waitresses, nurses, coaches, and teachers all rolled into one.  No doubt about it: there's always something to do.

But sometimes the kids just need a buddy; someone to play and laugh with.
 {Kylie is always making silly faces when taking pictures these days}

Well... two can play that game!

I'm always a little flattered when my kids ask me to play with them.  I'd be lying if I said that I'm always willing, but I am flattered :)  I love that my girls like to color, read, play catch, and sing silly songs with me.  Their laughter is THE BEST!

But dads are especially fun.  Even if it takes hardly any effort at all....
Years from now, I'll watch that video and reminisce about the good ol' days when rainy Tuesday evenings were spent jumping on each other :)

I Work Out

OK, I don't actually work out.  At least not regularly.  I feel like having 2 kids provides ample opportunities for exercise.

I think my husband would agree.  He does work out and he doesn't even need a gym membership.  The girls love "helping" with his workouts!

 I'd say it's a pretty effective method....

Old Dog, New Tricks

I'm getting old.

I even have proof.

I actually have another video of Kylie identifying 4 more "white" hairs but I'm choosing not to post that one :)  Five grey hairs might not seem like a huge deal, but I may or may not have plucked EIGHT grey hairs last night....

Apparently I missed a few.

Anyway, to prove that I'm not completely ancient, I'm learning something new this year:
A sweet friend of mine offered to teach me and I quickly took her up on the offer.  I realize that I'm a mom to two little girls so it's not like I have loads of spare time.  I realize that I've never in my life played a string instrument.  And I realize that my neighbors probably hate me. But I'm so excited to try this and there's no time like the present, right?  I'm actually able to practice 4-5 times each week and I typically have a lesson every 2 weeks.  It's so nice to have a friend/teacher who is willing to work at my pace. Maybe someday I'll post a video ;)

Kylie's Stats & Facts

Kylie had her 5 year wellness check today and she's a happy, healthy little girl.  Although, she wasn't too happy about having to get a shot....

Weight: 35 pounds (25th percentile)
Height: 40 3/4 inches (25th percentile)

In the last year she has only gained 4 pounds and grown 1 inch, so she's a peanut!
Here are some fun facts about Kylie:
  • She loves to draw, write, and sound out words.
  • She is very particular.  For instance, it's not uncommon for her to ask me for an apple that's cut up...with "no red"... in a pink bowl.  Oh, and a cup of water with ONE ice cube in it.
  • She is silly, silly, silly!  I love that it's so easy to get a giggle out of her.
  • Favorite color: pink
  • Favorite food: plain pasta {but will do crazy things like dip apples in BBQ sauce and ketchup}
  • Favorite game: Chutes & Ladders, but only if she's winning...
  • Favorite TV show: Phineas & Ferb
  • Favorite movie: Any Disney classic
  • CONSTANTLY asks why, even if the answer is super obvious.  Example: the other day I explained to her that we shouldn't jump on the couch because we could rip the cushions.  "Why???"
  • Is obsessed with the date.  Every night she dutifully puts a sticker on the day that is now over.  It's not uncommon for her to ask me how many days until Halloween or summer vacation or when so-and-so is coming over to play.

  • Almost always calls me "Mama."
  • She is still working on pronouncing her L's {which is normal for her age}.  Words like "bowl" and "school" are interesting but she has gotten better at pronouncing her own name.
  • Her mind works in a very fun way.  If you ask her why she decided to draw a certain picture, she'll probably say something like, "Well... it was just my great idea!"  She also says fun things like, "Don't worry, Mom!  I'm being careful-ing!"
  • She loves others for who they are with her whole heart.
  • She often talks about marriage and princesses.  By looking at my wedding picture she has decided that girls wear crowns but boys don't.  There are several little boys on her list of potential husbands, whether they're aware or not.  And she has informed me that she's very excited to turn 6 because that's when she's getting married.  Oh dear.
  • She enjoys helping me out at home.  She likes to sort laundry, sweep, dust, etc.
  • She is stubborn.  Her teacher at school probably wonders why Kylie shows up wearing a Detroit Tigers shirt and 2 different-colored bows in her hair {that don't even match said shirt}, but you really have to pick your battles with her!
It's amazing how much she's grown and developed in just 5 years.  We sure love her!
