Summer 2.0

**Post edit: I took a few videos of Summer today that were too cute not to share.  They're at the end of the post.  Enjoy!
Happy 2nd birthday, Summer!!!
Summer brings so much life to our family.  She's fun...

 ...and SO sweet.
We celebrated her birthday a few days early so Grandma & Grandpa Steorts could be a part of it.  The spill-resistant bubbles were her absolute favorite gift-- they cost $2.
She wasn't too sure about the candles...
...but it didn't stop her from enjoying the cupcake!  (What's up with those fingers???)
 A few of Summer's milestones/habits, etc: {will include stats on Tuesday}
  • Speaks in full sentences, which is remarkable for someone her age
  • Loves to run and jump
  • Can recite her ABC's
  • Counts to 15 and can count backwards from 10
  • Favorite snacks: goldfish, pretzels, teddy grahams, yogurt
  • Favorite shows: Dora the Explorer, Super Why, Barney (and always wants to know what each episode is called)
  • Favorite book: Just Go To Bed (Little Critter)
  • Enjoys singing, dancing, and trying to do everything Kylie does
  • Climbs on anything and everything
  • Suddenly very opinionated...
  • Prefers to have her blankie close by, but will willingly part with it if you ask her to
  • Sucks on her first two fingers on her right hand
  • Operates Netflix by herself (see video below)
  • Goes to nursery willingly (whew!)
  • Asks to use the potty... I just need to muster up the patience to teach her
  • Super ticklish and loves to cuddle

Special Visitors

Josh's parents visited us for a week and we had such a blast!  We had been really counting down the days to see them because it had been TWO YEARS since our last visit.  Since it had been so long, I was a little nervous about how the girls would react to the "first meeting."

Apparently I had no reason to worry!
It was so fun watching the girls' excitement as they shared everything about their lives with Grandma and Grandpa.
Of course, we couldn't just tell them everything about our lives.  We had to show them!  We dragged them to all of our favorite places, which no one seemed to mind.

The Canal Walk in downtown Indianapolis

The pool

Coxhall Gardens
This is my new favorite place.  I fell in love with their adorable child-sized village.  Notice the peppermint stepping stones next to the candy store?  So cute!

The Children's Museum

I couldn't tell you who had more fun-- the grown-ups or the kids...

We may have celebrated an almost-two-year-old's birthday (more on that later)...

Josh and I even went out on a date :)
Grandma and Grandpa got to be a part of the little things (like bedtime stories)...

...and some of the bigger things too, like my first rental car and Kylie's first soccer game (much more on that stuff later).
And it wouldn't be a true Michigander's reunion if we didn't play Euchre...every night... until 2:00am.  It didn't take long for it all to catch up with us!
But we had such a good time and we wouldn't have changed a thing :)

Sleeping Beauties

I love watching my kids sleep.
Usually Kylie doesn't nap, but this morning she had to get her second dose of Hep A.  One more thing that can be checked off the "Preschool Preparations" list.

New Toys

For months, Kylie has been casually mentioning various toys that she wants.  It's becoming quite the list, let me tell you.

But the item that was at the tippy top of her list was an umbrella.  It was $6 at Wal-Mart so I figured, why not???  She calls it her "Hi Kitty" umbrella.

 Oh, the bliss of childhood.
Gotta love those not-so-blissful moments too.  We're working on sharing :)
In Summer's defense, we're going a little stir-crazy.  Kylie and I have been sick so we haven't ventured out too much in the past few days.

But these just came in the mail and I know they'll help us endure the cabin fever.  This was one of my favorite series when I was little, so it's fun to read them with the girls.

Some R&R

We recently spent 5 days in Michigan and, as always, it was fabulous.
There's always something do to, even if we're just hanging out together inside on a rainy day.

When the whole gang gets together, we generally gather in my grandparents' backyard.  I LOVE it.  I have so many fond memories from my childhood that took place in that backyard.

The girls enjoy my grandma's "playground."

These two lovebirds celebrated their 57th anniversary while we were in town.  How cute are they?!
One of my favorite moments during our trip was when my grandpa-- who is in his mid-eighties-- started chasing Kylie around the yard.  No one prompted him to do it.  He just took off after her.
And she loved every second of it.  So sweet.
And this guy celebrated his 22nd birthday!  What do you get someone who recently got their own apartment?  Groceries.  Gas cards.  Practical stuff like that :)  Welcome to adulthood, bro.
This trip was different from our visit in May because we actually had down time, which was lovely.
And I always enjoy watching the family participate in our nightly bedtime routine.
Dad really got a kick out of Summer "reading" this book.  It's a new favorite of hers.
Can you guess which one of my children is constantly going, going, going and won't even stop for pictures?  :)

 Love them!!!
