Kylie's Birthday

I'm only a week late.
For Kylie's birthday we decided to meet at our ward building and just let her enjoy some wide open space. She's been stuck inside for a while because of the cold weather, but also because she's been potty training. It worked out well for me too because there was minimal setup involved and I didn't have to worry about my house being destroyed. These lovely balloons are still decorating our living room a week later.

The cultural hall was the perfect place for some of Kylie's larger toys that she doesn't get to play with very often, such as her tent/tunnel. She and her friend, Thad, chased each other in and out of that tunnel for quite a while.

Who says you can't ride a bike inside? Backwards? While your uncle chases you with a basketball?

Here she is blowing out her candle. It's a very different story from last year.

She had a very fun-filled day with family and friends.

3 Years Old!

Kylie turned 3 last Saturday (where has the time gone??) I'll include a birthday post as soon as I get all of my pictures together.
STATS
Height: 37 1/4" (62nd percentile)
Weight: 28 pounds (28th percentile)

Basically she is of average height but a total peanut! She has grown 3 1/4" and gained 2 pounds since last year.

FUN FACTS
- Still enjoys Elmo but is going through a Curious George phase
- Current favorite movie: A tie between "Monster's Inc" and "Horton Hears a Who"
- Favorite book: "The Very First Christmas"
- Favorite food: pasta
- Can recognize, recite, and sing the alphabet
- Can recognize basic shapes, numbers, and symbols on a keyboard
- Loves playing with containers of any kind, water, roller skates, paint, and her kitchen set
- Talks (and laughs) constantly!
- Loves talking to and playing with Summer
- Sings along with the songs on the radio...correctly!
- Is mostly potty trained
- Enjoys helping Mommy in the kitchen (especially mixing)
- Eats things she's not supposed to (snow, playdough, sand) and probably not enough of what she is supposed to
- Wakes up at 8:00am, naps from 1-2:30, goes to bed around 8:00pm but sometimes doesn't fall asleep until 9 or later. The doctor said she's in the in-between stage as far as naps go. I'll hang onto the nap because she'll willingly stay in her bed at night, even if she lies awake for a while. Is that too selfish???
- Enjoys talking on the phone, but only a few sentences at a time

This girl definitely keeps me on my toes but she is SO much fun to be around! Love ya Kylie-poo!!

Life With Little Kids

Whenever people ask me what keeps me busy these days, all I have to do is think about my kids. Between meals, diaper changes, naps, and errands, my day fills up pretty fast, even if it fills up with pretty mundane things. I feel like time just flies by now that I have two small children to look after, children who are growing like crazy! So here are some of the goings on with my young family.
Last night Kylie was giggling as she jumped on the couch (nothing new), but for some reason, Summer found it hilarious. I love her little laugh!

I pride myself on my efficiency in getting the kids ready for church on Sunday mornings. Josh is the Elders Quorum President in our ward and has to attend early morning meetings each week, which leaves me to get the kids ready on my own. I LOVE getting the kids dressed up for church, even if their dresses are covered in drool or cracker crumbs by the time we get home. It's the one time during the week when I can count on looking like we have it all together :)

Summer is losing more hair, which is a sign to everyone that she is sleeping more! Her bald spots make me kind of sad (she had so much beautiful dark hair at birth) but I do appreciate the extra sleep. No, she's still not sleeping through the night, but I'll take what I can get!

Now that Summer is 4 months old we have started her on rice cereal. So far, she's really not a fan! She has been staring at us during every meal so I thought for sure that she would really go for it. I think she prefers what she's used to-- her bottle.

You may have noticed in the video that Kylie didn't have any pants on. The reason why is because she's potty training and doing an awesome job!! I set a goal to have her potty trained by the time she turned 3 and I think I can pretty much check that one off the list (her birthday is next Saturday). She still has a little ways to go but she's making great progress. Since the potty training has kept us homebound for awhile, we've been finding some fun indoor activities. She got this leapster for Christmas that she loves.

She also received a play kitchen that keeps her entertained for hours...seriously.

Of course, there's watching TV. She doesn't usually look this zoned out, I promise. She went down for a nap right after I took this.
Leave it to Kylie to get creative! While I made quesadillas one night, she decided to climb in the box. I can't believe she almost fit completely inside!

I've been trying to keep myself busy too (aside from the usual stuff). I learned to French braid and I thoroughly enjoy practicing on Kylie-- thanks, Alyssa.

Just Us Girls

Josh took these pictures with his phone so they're totally blurry, but you get the idea.

I still can't believe how well these two get along. It's like they're both fascinated with each other. Every time Summer wakes up from a nap, Kylie rushes to her side, strokes her hair, and says in the most enthusiastic voice possible, "Hi Summer! It's good to see you!"
Kylie trying to give Summer a kiss (on her shoulder?)
She was very surprised when Summer gave her a big, sloppy, open-mouthed kiss back!
Kylie showing her sister how the pros suck on their fingers
Are my kisses that bad? haha
Me and the babe. I even dressed up for you all.

4 Months Old

Height: 26" (off the chart)
Weight: 17 lbs. 8 oz. (off the chart)
Head circumference: 41.2 cm (50th percentile)

My dad has nicknamed Summer "Big Baby." I think that's an understatement! We're just waiting for her to get strong enough to sit up on her own so she can get out of this ridiculous infant bathtub! She currently wears size 3 diapers (Kylie is in size 4) and mostly size 6-9 month clothes, with a few exceptions.
You can usually tell how well my babies are sleeping at night by how much hair they have. As you can see, she still has quite a bit. Now that she's ready to eat rice cereal, we're hoping she'll be able to sleep longer stretches. She is beginning to get on a more regular schedule, but it's not as consistent as I would like it to be. She naps in her crib during the day and sleeps in her pack & play in our bedroom at night. Once she masters sleeping through the night she'll be in her crib all the time. Kylie loves napping at the same time as her sister so I'm sure she'll make a great roommate. We're hoping to ditch the pacifier sooner rather than later. When she's chewing on her fingers during the day, she always finds her index and middle fingers on her left hand (another lefty??)
Despite the lack of sleep, we just LOVE her to pieces! She has an enormous smile and a very contagious laugh. We have learned that she is definitely a daddy's girl. She's pretty laid back anyway, but she could chill with him all day!
A baby's eye color is usually pretty obvious by the time they're 6 months old, and even now I can't tell what color they'll be! My guess is that they'll be hazel, but sometimes they look almost grayish-blue. She's a mystery and we enjoy learning about her.

Random

Even though we have been in our apartment since mid-August, I've never really posted anything about it. This is the girls' room. I bought these SUPER thick thermal blackout drapes so the kids are pretty much guaranteed a good night's sleep. They are quite possibly the best purchase I've made in a while.
As the weather started to get cooler I thought Kylie might appreciate some actual bedding. Since she transitioned to a toddler bed the weather has been so hot she never really needed anything other than her old crib bedding and her blankie. Now it truly resembles a big girl bed.
Have I mentioned how much Kylie LOVES being a big sister?? Lately she's taken an interest in holding Summer, which is really fun to watch. I just have a feeling that the two of them will have a very special relationship.
We're thinking of getting the girls' pictures taken in a studio. This picture isn't too bad considering it's the very first practice shot we've ever attempted with both girls together.
Summer received this exersaucer for Christmas. She'll enjoy it more the older she gets. Until then, Kylie is more than willing to show her how to work the lights on the front.
Summer turned 4 months old at the end of December and she has her doctor appointment on Wednesday. I'm excited to find out how big she is now. One thing we do know is that she is still incredibly ticklish!
