Bring on the Christmas Season!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday full of great food, family, and plenty of relaxation. As much as I love Thanksgiving, there is something so special about the Christmas season. However, December can often seem like a chaotic rat race (Black Friday anyone?) so we spent the remainder of Thanksgiving weekend spending quality time together as a family... playing the wii. I have never really enjoyed video games very much, but I can easily lose track of time playing the wii for some reason. Kylie loves to watch us when we play, although the picture below may lead you believe otherwise.
Yes, the house was a disaster for most of the weekend, but that's not because we neglected it. That's just life with a toddler.
I love my husband very much, but he just doesn't share my passion for holidays. He's not a Scrooge or a Grinch by any means, but he doesn't get as excited as I do. Fortunately, this year I had Kramer to share the excitement with. Together we set up the Christmas tree and put out the decorations.

We tried to get Kylie in a festive mood but I think she may take after her father. She very politely took the antlers off immediately after the picture was taken :)

So Thankful

I have really been thinking about the things that I'm thankful for, and I have learned that the small things add up in a hurry. Here are just a few:

My beautiful, amazing family. the gospel. freedom. a reliable car. free time. music. showers. great health. education. the library. date nights. grandparents/babysitters. DVR... and so much more.

After an eventful day with my extended family, these 4 things completed the day nicely. A great movie...

my all-time favorite snack...
my all-time favorite "dessert"...

and my all-time favorite person
Happy Thanksgiving!

I Think She Missed

As I've mentioned before, Kylie loves to write. However, lately I keep catching her writing on herself more than the paper. This was today's masterpiece.

Are We In Michigan??

The weather in Michigan has been BEAUTIFUL lately! Normally by mid-November we have already had our first snowfall. For the past couple of weeks, we've been enjoying temperatures in the upper 50s, low 60s. I love it because it gives me a chance to get Kylie out in the fresh air.

Whenever we have unseasonably warm weather in Michigan, we put out the Christmas decorations so we don't have to do it in the snow. It looks kinda funny to have a huge Christmas wreath on our house on such a beautiful day, but it will totally pay off later.

Kylie... just being herself.

The guys went out and played a little football. I grew up doing this with my brothers and my dad, so this particular activity makes me feel right at home. I love that Josh fits in so well with my family.

Skittle Bowling

A couple weeks ago, Josh and I went bowling with some friends. I can bowl a perfect game on the Nintendo Wii, but I am terrible in real life. We decided to make things a little more interesting by "skittle bowling" instead. For each flavor of skittle, you have to bowl a different way. For instance, red = bowl regularly, orange = opposite hand, green = granny style, etc. Plus, you get to eat the skittles you draw :)

Here is Josh bowling backwards (blue skittle).

You probably can't see this very well, but these are our scores. Mine is very sad. During skittle bowling, I bowled a 48. My cumulative score for the 3 games we bowled that night was 168. I think I'll stick with the wii...

New Hobbies

My brother busted out his snare drum the other day and Kylie LOVED it. She can often be found drumming on random containers anyway, so this was heaven for her.
Is it possible to share too much? She would drum for about 3 second intervals and then give Kramer a turn...

The other thing she loves to do is write. She will hoard any markers, pens, pencils, crayons, chalk, etc., if they are in her reach. Her favorite thing to do is to take off each marker cap and put them all in the mug. (This video isn't super exciting, but this is what happens at our house on a typical day).

First Name Basis

Josh and Kylie have always had such a cute relationship. They absolutely adore each other and it's just fun to watch them interact together. Kylie has put her own little twist on the relationship during the past couple of weeks. She began calling Josh by his first name. She hears me say it all the time so she just picked up on it.

For instance:
-- If I'm ever talking on the phone, she'll assume it's him and say, "Josh?"

-- If Josh and I are on separate floors of the house, she will go to the stairs and call his name. I have done this myself plenty of times...

-- Over the weekend we took Kylie to a med center. In my haste, I completely forgot to put more diapers in my purse and, of course, she needed a diaper change. Josh went home to grab some diapers and as soon as he left she said, "Josh go?" (Where did Josh go?)

-- Grandma Steorts made a little quiet book for Kylie that has pictures of family members, bible stories, etc. She found a group shot of Josh's whole family, pointed to him, and identified him by his first name.

-- Josh left early this morning to go to Richmond, VA and it didn't occur to Kylie that he was missing until later this evening. Out of nowhere she started calling, "Josh! Josh!" and began searching throughout the house for him.

I think it's hilarious! Josh... not so much, haha. I'm sure this little phase will pass (let's hope). Whenever she says his first name I make sure to tell her that his name is Daddy. Maybe in the near future it will stick :)

Kylie and Kyle

My older brother, Kyle, just returned home from a 4-month deployment in Afghanistan. Kylie was a little shy at first, but she definitely remembered him. It was fun watching them interact with each other.
